Interview ~ Danny Senda

Danny Senda gave us a few minutes.

WWISC: Dan you came up through the ranks here, and although you were with Southampton I believe you're actually a local lad?

Danny: Yes I'm actually from Marlow but I was with Southampton since I was thirteen, but I had a little falling out in the first year of my apprenticeship so I came here.

WWISC: Who was it that actually brought you here?

Danny: It was Adrian Cole. He knew actually knew about me when I was thirteen when Southampton came in for me. And of course Southampton being a Premier League club it's a little difficult to say no.

WWISC: Who was your manager when you joined our youth team?

Danny: It was Gary Goodchild, well Gary had just come in himself and he did brilliantly for me.

WWISC: Sorted you and your life and got you playing football again!

Danny: Yes! He got me to concentrate on playing football again. To be honest at that time I really wasn't very happy at Southampton. I was straight from school and very homesick being all the way down on the south coast. Honestly he screwed my head on.

WWISC: You started out playing as a winger.

Danny: Well originally at Southampton I was a winger and I actually played for England as a right winger and when I came here Gary Goodchild just said to me "where do you want to play"? And I said that wanted to play upfront, which was where I always wanted to play. So most of my youth team time here was spent playing upfront. I was called into the first team but spent most of the time on the bench but then a couple of seasons back I came on against Luton and its really just gone from there and I'm the right back now.

WWISC: And you've got the number 'Two' shirt as well.

Danny: And I've got the number 'Two' shirt yes!

WWISC: Did you 'want' the number 'Two' or was no choice in the matter?

Danny: Yes! I actually wanted the number Two shirt. I knew it was coming up as Marshy had left so I knew it was available so I'm please to have it as it shows you're an established first team player.

WWISC: We were talking to Mark Rogers about number changes and at the time he said that the Seventeen shirt was his but now he has the number Six shirt and big boots to fill.

Danny: Yes that's Bates old number.

WWISC: We see that you've got a little family of your own in tow now.

Danny: Yes! That's another thing I can blame on Southampton really

WWISC: Did you bring them back with you?

Danny: No, I'd returned from Southampton and I hadn't seen my girlfriend for sometime as I'd only been back for the occasional weekend. When I came back I was seeing her everyday and within about four months she was pregnant.

WWISC: You were both a bit young for that to happen to weren't you?

Danny: Yes we were but these things can't be helped.

WWISC: So! What are your going to tell us about the new hair style?

Danny: Ha Ha! Yes the hair. It’s just something different isn't it?

WWISC: Yes it's different and it isn't shaved like the rest of them.

Danny: Yes exactly, I don't want to be like Richard Harris with the same old boring haircut. (Richard is stood ten feet away)

WWISC: But it's the stuff he wears, he's the 'Sharp dressed Man'. So are you happy with the way things are now going for you?

Danny: Yes! I'm really happy now with the way everything going for me at the moment. I know we've only played two games at the moment but we're unbeaten.

WWISC: On the away trips, is there anyone you tend to team up with or are you all in together?

Danny: It's tends to be Me, Martin Lee and Darren Currie together.

WWISC: The younger lads together then.

Danny: Yes, we all get on well.

WWISC: Well thanks for having a chat with us Dan and the best of luck for the future.

Danny: Thanks very much.
