WWISC played their second supporters game of the season in very blustery
conditions against a very strong PNE team. We started very brightly and
opened the scoring on 2 mins when Matt Stone launched the ball forward
towards Owen who held off his marker well and struck a great shot from
20 yards into the bottom corner of the net. PNE responded strongly and
were soon level after 15 mins. The rest of the first half produced
numerous good chances for both sides with PNE probably adjusting to the
conditions slightly better. Neither team managed to score again and we
were happy to be holding them 1-1 at half time.
Second half began with PNE on the attack and they soon struck to take
the lead on 50 mins and quickly followed this up with a third. WWISC
kept battling and were rewarded when Alex Beavis struck on 65 mins to
set up a rousing finish. Both sides had good chances but it was PNE who
struck the final goal on 75 mins to lead 4-2. The Wycombe lads kept
battling and were again unlucky on a couple of occasions near the end
but the final whistle blew and PNE had revenged their play off final
defeat with an identical scoreline.
This was a good performance from WWISC against a strong side who have
won most of their games this season . PNE were very complimentary
towards us afterwards and said we were one of the better teams they’d
faced this season which is encouraging.
Special mention again to Steve Cooper who refereed the game for us and
made it look all very easy and professional.
Our next game is pencilled in for April 1st when we take on the Wycombe
W Supporters Trust team. We’re hoping to play the game at the clubs
training ground at Booker although this is still to be confirmed.
